From mill to finca, in four scenes

1413 — Codinachs’s mill
The first sure record of the mill is a lawsuit of 1413–14: it belonged to Pere Codinachs, son of the lord of the farmsteads of Albalat and Benimàmet. It may be older still.

1658 — A fulling mill
The 1658 inspection of the Royal Montcada Canal describes it as a fulling mill, where cloth was prepared. In 1709 there are two mills side by side: a fulling mill of the Valencia guild of paraires (wool dressers) and a flour mill.

2021 — From mill to finca
After centuries as a mill, and in the 20th century a textile factory and a Fallas workshop, the studio Janfri & Ranchal dates its project for the finca to 2021: architecture, interiors and landscape.

The light comes down on the bougainvillea
While the drinks go on, the light turns gold, then pink, then blue among the flowers and the white wall. It’s the hour for photographs.

To the table, among stone and arches
A spacious, versatile indoor hall, with stone walls the finca dates to the 15th century. The kitchen for the caterer is on the premises.
